On a routine long-haul flight from Montreal (YUL) to Lima (LIM), the Air Transat crew faced an unusual operational challenge. Severe weather conditions in Peru meant the closest suitable alternate airport to Lima was more than three hours away. As a result, the crew made a technical fuel stop in Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ) to ensure they carried enough fuel to divert safely if necessary.
