Flight UA35 departed San Francisco International Airport (SFO) at 10:53 PST. Initially bound for Osaka, Japan (KIX), it entered a holding pattern at 19:50 UTC (11:50 PST) and diverted to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), where it landed safely at 21:36 UTC (13:36 PST).

United stated that the flight carried 235 passengers and a crew of 14 members. The airline indicated that the 2002-built plane was designed to land safely with missing or damaged tires. Passengers are set to be transferred to another plane for the remaining portion of their flights. Additionally, investigators from the FAA and NTSB will be examining the aircraft and the wheel itself to determine the cause of its detachment.
