Global Air Traffic Continues To Increase

According to RadarBox data, 513,345 commercial flights were recorded between March 20 and 26, 2022 with a daily average of 73,335 flights. This corresponds to an 11% increase in flights as compared to the same period last year (2021).

Last year, 461,361 commercial flights were recorded during the same period, with a daily average of 63,623 commercial flights. This data represents 63% of pre-pandemic flight numbers recorded in the same period in 2019. US domestic flights, followed by Europe - Europe flights, and Chinese domestic flights, drove up the numbers, therefore showing an increase in demand for commercial flights worldwide.

At the tapering end of the pandemic, the demand for flights in Europe and the Northern Hemisphere is slated to grow and reach numbers close to pre-pandemic levels. However, in Europe, these numbers may be influenced by the war in Ukraine that is affecting several airlines and causing several flight cancellations.
