Flying the Challenging High Terrains of Bhutan in the Cockpit of the ATR 42-600

Just Planes continues its long-standing partnership with Druk Air, Bhutan’s national airline, with a return to one of the most captivating and challenging flying environments in the world. This marks our third trip to Bhutan in over two decades of collaboration, and with it comes the release of two brand-new cockpit programs that aviation fans won't want to miss!

Flying Through the Himalayas

These new films capture breathtaking flights aboard Druk Air’s ATR 42-600 and Airbus A319. Known for operating in some of the most mountainous and weather-sensitive terrain in the world, Druk Air’s pilots face unique challenges on every flight.

In the new ATR program, you'll experience domestic flights from Paro to three remote Bhutanese destinations, each requiring precision flying through deep valleys and high peaks. Paro itself is famous for being one of the most challenging airports in the world, and these regional routes are no exception.
New Routes, New Challenges
The programs also showcase Druk Air’s international expansion:
-
A newly launched route from Paro to Dubai, connecting Bhutan to the Middle East.
-
The airline’s high-altitude flight to Kathmandu, Nepal, is another notoriously difficult airport surrounded by mountainous terrain.
Both routes add another layer of complexity, highlighting the skill of Druk Air’s pilots as they navigate unpredictable weather and make tight approaches, all captured with stunning visuals and expert commentary.
A Milestone for Women in Bhutanese Aviation
Viewers of our 2018 program will recognize a familiar face in the cockpit—this time wearing four stripes. We're proud to feature Bhutan’s first female Captain, who has been promoted since our last visit. Her journey is a testament to the dedication and progress of Druk Air and aviation in the region.
Once again, JustPlanes Air has utilized AirNav Radar data in the creation of this program, enabling viewers to track the aircraft’s route in real-time with detailed telemetry and flight tracking visuals. It's another example of how modern data tools enhance aviation storytelling.
