Dubai-based carrier flydubai has officially agreed to wet lease four Boeing 737-800 aircraft from Czech Republic-based airline Smartwings. The deal, made public on August 7, 2023, outlines the inclusion of Smartwings' planes into flydubai's operations between October 17, 2023, and April 16, 2024.

This strategic Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance (ACMI) arrangement solidifies flydubai's collaboration with Smartwings, with the four leased aircraft playing a pivotal role in supporting Flydubai's existing fleet of 79 Boeing 737 airplanes. Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO at flydubai, expressed his satisfaction, stating, "We are pleased to confirm this new wet lease agreement with Smartwings. This marks our third agreement with the carrier since 2019. Smartwings, an IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) certified company, is well-experienced in ACMI agreements. The leasing of four additional aircraft will enable us to maintain our operational efficiency, add capacity around our network, and minimize any potential disruption to our passengers during one of the year's busiest travel periods."

At present, flydubai exclusively operates a fleet comprised of Boeing 737 aircraft. This fleet includes 30 Next-Gen Boeing 737-800s, 46 Boeing 737 MAX 8s, and three Boeing 737 MAX 9s. Jiri Juran, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Smartwings, conveyed his enthusiasm by stating, "We are delighted to have signed our third ACMI wet lease agreement with flydubai. This cooperation, which we greatly value, will allow us to achieve higher utilization of our aircraft and provide our qualified employees with more opportunities during the winter season."

The entirety of the all-Economy Class aircraft will be designated to operate on selected routes within Flydubai's network. These routes include vital destinations such as Chattogram, Colombo, Dhaka, Karachi, and Muscat. The new addition of Smartwings' planes to Flydubai's fleet is anticipated to enhance operational capacity and service quality, especially during the upcoming peak travel period.
