American Airlines has announced that it will not serve alcohol in Economy class until January 2022.
This has been aligned with the expiration of a mask mandate from the TSA which requires passengers to wear face masks onboard aircraft.
Such a mandate had been extended into 2022 but was slated to restart such sales next month. Southwest Airlines has also followed in this motion too.
It is understood the motive behind this is to do with the Federal Aviation Administration's announcement about a surge in unruly passengers due to non-compliance on wearing masks.
The FAA stated that in 2021 alone so far, there have been 3,889 reports of unruly behavior, with 71% of those cases due to such refusals made by passengers.
Another incredible statistic is that unruly passenger fines have exceeded $1 million this year due to such in-flight disturbances.
The FAA is also going to ask airport bars and restaurants not to serve alcohol-to-go, in order to prevent such cases again going into the future.
