American Airlines Plans Return to Venezuela With Miami–Caracas Flights

American Airlines (AA) announced plans to resume daily nonstop service between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Caracas’ Simón Bolívar International Airport (CCS) as early as April 30, marking a significant step toward restoring air connectivity between the United States and Venezuela after more than six years. The restart remains subject to final government approval, security assessments, and operational readiness.

The Fort Worth-based carrier said the route will be operated by Envoy Air, its wholly owned regional subsidiary, using Embraer 175 aircraft. American Airlines continues to coordinate closely with authorities in both the United States and Venezuela as preparations for the relaunch move forward.

A Long-Awaited Return

In January, American Airlines announced its intention to become the first U.S. airline to reconnect Venezuela with the United States. At the time, the airline emphasized that service would only begin after all regulatory approvals and security evaluations were completed.

“We have a more than 30-year history connecting Venezuelans to the U.S., and we are ready to renew that relationship,” said Chief Commercial Officer Nat Pieper, highlighting the airline’s longstanding presence in the market.

American began serving Venezuela in 1987 and eventually became the largest U.S. airline operating there before suspending flights in 2019 amid safety and political concerns. The planned return represents both a restoration of a key historical market and a strategic extension of Miami’s role as American Airlines’ primary gateway to Latin America.

Government Approvals and Security Reviews

The planned relaunch follows recent progress in regulatory approvals and security evaluations. The U.S. Department of Transportation approved American Airlines’ request to resume flights earlier this year. At the same time, the Transportation Security Administration conducted airport security assessments in Caracas as part of the process.

If all remaining approvals are finalized, American Airlines intends to operate daily nonstop flights between Miami and Caracas, providing options for business, leisure, and humanitarian travel.
