The aircraft making this journey is American Airlines’ Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, a powerful machine with a range of 8,500 nautical miles. It’s designed for ultra-long-haul routes just like this one, ensuring comfort and style for the 16-hour journey. The Dreamliner is configured with 30 flat-bed business class seats, 21 premium economy seats, and 234 economy seats, making it a versatile option for every traveller’s needs.

On the 28th of October, we witnessed the historic arrival of American Airlines’ inaugural flight, AA7, touching down in Brisbane. This milestone marked Brisbane’s fourth North American connection, joining the ranks of established routes to Vancouver, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. This expansion came as part of a larger partnership with Qantas aimed at creating seamless travel experiences across the two airlines. With this collaboration, passengers could access more than 200 destinations in the U.S. and 70 in Australia, making international travel simpler, more affordable, and more direct than ever.
Economic Impact and Job Creation
The Queensland Government projected that this seasonal service, operating from October to March, would be a major benefit for the local economy. Over three years, it is expected to create up to 690 jobs and inject an impressive $113 million into Queensland’s economy. The timing of the route launch, aligning with the peak U.S. winter travel season, made it an ideal option for travellers from both sides of the Pacific looking for a direct connection.
